Robert "Bob" William Meyers

Robert "Bob" William Meyers, 86, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

Bob was born on March 19, 1937 in Buchanan, Michigan to George and Esther (Marsh) Meyers.

On August 30, 1958, in La Porte, Bob married LaVonn L. Aikman who passed away on October 5, 2022.  He is survived by his fiance, Sharon Weaver; son, Ron (Kayla) Meyers of Westville; 2 daughters, Deb (Dan) Lute of Logansport and Tammy (Jeff) Goodwin of Wanatah; 8 grandchildren, Stella (Kevin) Swieboda, Richie Meyers, Doug (Courtni) Meyers, Amber (Darren) Allie, Erin (Travis) Smith, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Goodwin, Jordan Goodwin, and Jamilyn (Coty) Buchwaiter; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded by his parents; wife; daughter, Patricia; and grandson, Zachary Goodwin.

Robert was a life-long farmer in the Westville community, honored with the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year award in 1972 and co-merit honorary with his son, Ron, for Outstanding Achievement in Resource Conservation in 1994.  Bob was also known and recognized for his many innovative and new farming practices, many of which are used by local farmers today e.g. planting a secondary crop of soybeans in winter wheat.  Like any family business, Bob enjoyed working with his children and grandchildren.

In later years, Bob became an avid ultralight aircraft pilot who loved taking his family members up for a ride.  He was one of the most prolific inventors of farm stuff.  If it wasn't invented and he needed it, he figured out how to make it.  He was a lover of dark chocolate and ice cream, but most importantly, he was a man after God's own heart.  Bob loved the Lord.  He loved His Word.  Bob taught second grade Sunday School for over thirty years, and he always kept a 3x5 card with a current Bible memory verse on it.  Our beloved patriarch of the family will be truly missed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 10027 W. 1000 S., Wanatah, IN.  Pastor John Stalions and Rev. Dr. Daniel Lute will be officiating.  Interment will take place at Westville Cemetery following the service.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.
