Shirley Mae Bachman

Shirley Mae Bachman, 86, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Oak Woods Manor.

Shirley was born on June 15, 1932 in Michigan City, IN, to Harry and Bessie (Shirer) Handtke.

In 1951 in Michigan City, she married Harold Bachman, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2014.  Surviving are her beloved children, Sherrie (Tim) Jones of La Porte, Stephanie (Ben) Ameling of Rolling Prairie, and Sally (Fred) Bergman of Kouts; 8 grandchildren, Michael (Katie) Johnson, Trevor Hammons, Craig (Jess) Ameling, Karissa Ameling. Philip J. Paxson, Natasha (Jason) Walters, Mason (Maria) Paxson, and Rob Bachman, Jr.; 9 great-grandchildren, Mallory Mae Paxson, Kiera and Maya Strakowski, Tyler and Kyley Johnson, Katie and Kaden Walters, and Huston Decker; brother, Richard (Joan) Handtke, sisters, Carol (Earl) McGinnis and Debbie Handtke; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Robert Bachman, Sr.

Shirley was a driver at La Porte Transporte, and also worked at Northside Pharmacy.  She enjoyed the lake and spending time with her friends at Oak Wood Manor.  Shirley loved to laugh, play bingo, and spend time with her family. She was a Die Hard Cubs Fan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 pm (CT) on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN, with Pastor Josh Reasoner officiating.  Burial will take place privately at Pine Lake Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 pm (CT) until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
