Albert V. Hinton, Jr., 78, of 161 Regency Parkway, LaPorte, Indiana, died at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21 at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. The cremains will be interred in Pine Lake Cemetery at a later date.
Al was born June 24, 1926, in LaPorte to the late Albert V. & Dorothy (Bitterling) Hinton, Sr. He was married to Donna, who preceded him in death. On October 10, 1974, he married Barbara McMahan, who survives.
Also surviving are daughters Barbara (Paul) Kipfer-Magoulas of Ivoryton, CT and Nancy (Mike) Fitzgerald of Griffith, Indiana; step-daughters Bonnie (Dennis) Timm and Cindy Scheidel, both of LaPorte; step-sons Gary (Sigrid) McMahan of LaPorte and Patrick McMahan; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Howard Hinton, preceded him in death.
Al started the Albert V. Hinton, Jr. CPA firm in 1952, which became Parkison & Hinton, Inc. in 1988.
He was a graduate of Elston High School in 1944, Indiana University of East Chicago, IN in 1947 and Northwestern University in 1949 with a B.S. Degree in Business.
He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Council from 1975-1978, the Indiana CPA Society, holding the office of president from 1971-1972 and receiving the Distinguished Service Award, the Illinois CPA Society, and a former chairman of the Indiana CPA Political Action Committee. He was a former lecturer for the Universities of Purdue, Valparaiso and IU of South Bend. He was a speaker on various American Revolution topics. He was a member of the Northern Indiana Council Boy Scouts of America, serving as president from 1977-1979 and had received the Silver Beaver award. He had received the Jaycee "Man of the Year" award. He was a member of the LaPorte Kiwanis Club, having served as president, secretary and treasurer, the Kiwanis Foundation Board of Trustees, having served as treasurer and Kiwanis Club Explorer Division serving as Lt. Governor. He was a member of the LaPorte First United Methodist Church. He had served as treasurer for the Samaritan Counseling Center and was past treasurer of the LaPorte County Historical Society. Al was on the board of directors of Healthy Communities, was a founding member of the Neutral Zone in LaPorte and had served on the LaPorte Board of Works for four years. He had also served in the US Navy from 1944-1946.
