Alvin Paul "Pete" Luther, age 98, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Golden Living Center Fountainview Terrace.
Alvin was born in La Porte, IN, on February 4, 1917 to William and Louise (Kepplin) Luther
On July 21, 1940, he married Vivian McCorkel who preceded him in death in 2003. Surviving are his sons, Thomas M. (Marlyn) Luther of La Porte and Mike (Kathy) Luther of La Porte; grandchildren, Kevin (Amy) Luther, Kimberly (Marc) Christiano, Robin (Patrick) Kubit, all of La Porte, Erik (Kathy) Luther and Marcie (Keith) Moore, both of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Emily Luther, Drew Luther, Caleb Luther, Benjamin Luther, Megan Jerndt, Meghan Pointon, Brooklyn Luther, Zach Luther, Reece Luther, Brynnley Luther, Blaine Kubit, and Kasey Kubit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian; five brothers and two sisters.
Alvin was a 1936 Graduate of La Porte High School. He worked as a Civil Engineer for LTV Steel Company for 25 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, as a charter member. Pete was a long time bowler. He was inducted into the La Porte Bowling Hall of Fame. He was the first La Porte Slicer basketball MVP in 1936 and was captain of the team. Pete ushered at United Methodist Church for many years. He loved to golf, especially at Beechwood Golf Course.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Evan Lash officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 9 AM Saturday until the time of service at the funeral home.
