Anthony "Joey" Joel Shannon, 64, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at his home.
Born on June 22, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, Joey was the beloved son of George J. Shannon and Helen G. (Shoffner) Shannon-Hatchel. Known for his kind heart, sharp mind, and quiet strength, Joey touched the lives of those around him in ways both simple and profound.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Helen G. Hatchel; his sons, Joel Shannon of Georgia and Gabriel Camacho of New Mexico, whom he loved deeply and spoke of often with pride; his cherished aunt, Della Parrish of Hamlet; and his niece, Melissa Dunfee of La Porte.
He was preceded in death by his father, George J. Shannon; his sister and dear friend, Phyllis L. Lucas; and his stepfather, William H. Hatchel.
Joey spent much of his life working with his hands-as a skilled mechanic and in construction-always willing to lend his expertise to help others. He was a proud member of the American Legion and held a deep respect for those who served.
Outside of work, Joey was a man of many interests. He had a lifelong passion for music and could often be found tapping along to his favorite tunes. He loved working on cars, cheering on his favorite basketball teams, and diving into books and documentaries about U.S. Presidents and geography. Joey had a curious mind and a thoughtful soul.
Those who knew Joey will remember him for his quiet wit, generous heart, and unshakeable loyalty to those he loved. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and strength in the bonds of family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Billy Cane officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
