Arthur Brinklow

Arthur Allen (Al) Brinklow , 82 years old of La Porte, IN, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 in LaPorte Hospital .

He was born July 18, 1928 in Goshen, Indiana, son of Reginald and Catharine (Allen) Brinklow .

He received a BA from Wabash College and a MS from Indiana University. Following his college graduation, he began a career in business, only to discover that his true calling was teaching. He then took classes at Goshen College to obtain his teaching license. He taught Social Studies at Central Junior High from 1957-'59. Al then moved to High School (now Boston Middle School) where he taught World History and International Relations until his retirement in 1989. He also served as Social Studies Department Head from 1967-'88.
Al served on the Board of Trustees of the LaPorte Community School Corporation, the LaPorte County Tourism Board, the Lilly Foundation Scholarship Committee, the LaPorte Educational Foundation, and the LaPorte City Police Merit Commission. He was a volunteer tutor for READ LaPorte County and served as a mentor at Handley Elementary School. He was heavily active in the LaPorte County Democrats.

He was a member of The Presbyterian Church of LaPorte where he served as Deacon and Elder. Al was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.


Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Boyd) Cota Brinklow and sons: Edwin Brinklow and David Cota, brother, Robert Brinklow, Traverse City, MI .

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Regina (Brinklow) Blair.

Friends will be received from 4-8PM Friday, April 1 at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, IN and Saturday from 9 AM until the time of the service at LaPorte Presbyterian Church.

Services will be held at LaPorte Presbyterian Church Saturday April 2, at 10:00am with Rev. Sally Wicks officiating.
