Ashford H. "Herb" Price Jr., 91, of La Porte, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at Elkhart Hospice House in Mishawaka, Ind.
He was born in McRae, Ark., on April 10, 1922 to Ashford Herbert Price Sr. and Maude (Osborne).
On February 21, 1947, he married Loreda Sornson, who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Herbert (Patricia) Price of Fishers, Ind. and Brenda Bryan of South Bend, Ind.; two grandchildren, Derek (Dana) Surowiec and Shauna (Pete Jaremczuk) Levenhagen, both of La Porte; and four great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Levenhagen, Jocelyn Surowiec, Tyler Rogers and Hayden Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Annette McDermott; his parents; his stepmother, Mother Molly; and eight sisters.
Ashford served his country honorably during WWII in the United States Army. He was owner and operator of I Street Bar. He was a Mason with the Excelsior Masonic Lodge 41.
Herb was a die-hard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014. A Masonic service will be preformed by Excelsior Masonic Lodge 41 at 11:30 a.m. Full military rites will be conducted at noon.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will follow at a later date in Patton Cemetery.
