Beatrice Lee McAlister, 87 years old of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born March 28, 1925 in Lexington, KY, daughter of the late Walter Thomas and Nancy Ellen (Lowry) Handy.
Beatrice was married on November 1, 1947 in Lexington, KY, to Henry McAlister who preceded her in death on January 1, 1994. She retired from Accurate Castings and was a member of 1st Free Will Baptist Church in Rolling Prairie. She was an avid Cubs fan.
She is survived by her children; Henry (Rhoda) McAlister, Jr. of Kingsford Heights, IN., Nancy (Dave) Inman of South Bend, IN., Walter (Theresa) McAlister of Admore, OK., Mark (Pam) McAlister of South Bend, IN.,Vickie (Rick) Swanson of Union Mills, IN., John (Victoria) McAlister of LaPorte, IN; Rose Cunningham of LaPorte; 26 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Ora Handy of East Point, FL.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; son, Robert Wayne (Asmah) McAlister; grandson, Christopher Cunningham; two brothers, James and Jesse Handy; and two sisters Ruth and Mary.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Nathan Wireman and Pastor Lenard Johnson officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2012 and from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Monday at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Interment will follow in the Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
