Bennie Contreras, 81, of Monticello, IN, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Northwest Health-Porter.

Bennie was born on January 18, 1943, in Omar, WV, to Cecil and Georgia (Hall) Contreras.

Surviving Bennie are his daughters, Lisa (Bruce) Chronister and Deborah ; 4 grandchildren, Danielle (Ryan) Vespo, Nicole Szymkowski, Ashley (Noyan) Olcum and Elyse Cook; 4 great-grandchildren; significant other, Mary;as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maxine Hylton; and beloved dog, Max.

Bennie was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He served from 1961 to 1964 and earned his Parachutist Badge as well as a Letter of Commendation.

He was an engineer for many years. Bennie was a member of AMVETS. He enjoyed fishing, playing corn hole, and viewing sports, particularly West Virginia. Bennie will be fondly remembered for his ability to fix anything that was brought to him and his willingness to always help others.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family burial in WV will take place at a later date.
