Bernice N. Reed, 98 years old of La Porte, IN, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in her home.
She was born February 4, 1910 in Manteno, Illinois, daughter of the late John A. & (Pfeil) Blessing.
She was married August 1, 1935 in Chicago Heights, IL. to Dr. D.R. Reed who preceded her in death May 18, 1988.
She worked for 12 years at the Chicago Tuberculosis Institute in Chicago Heights, IL. as secretary, and 37 years as Deputy Clerk at La Porte Circuit Court.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Russell.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Past Regent of Miriam Benedict Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Past Matron of La Porte Chapter #280, Order of the Eastern Star, Messiah Shrine #10, Past Worthy High Priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, La Porte Business Girls Assoc., American Legion Auxiliary Post #83, and La Porte Hospital Auxiliary.
Friends will be received from 5-7:00 PM, Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Cutler Funeral Home, La Porte, IN, with an Eastern Star Service and Funeral Service at 7:00 PM., with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating.
A private burial will be held Monday at Pine Lake Cemetery.
