Berthann Rebecca Blevins, age 58, of Wakarusa, IN, left this world to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. She was born in Goshen, IN on May 15, 1958, the daughter of Rev. Jack and Naomi (Bennett) DeVault. On March 28, 1978, she was joined in holy matrimony to the Rev. Patrick D. Blevins at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Goshen, IN.
Berthann was baptized into the Pentecostal Church at the age of nine and never wavered in her faith. She devoted her life to spreading the Gospel and wanted everyone to know that Jesus loved them, regardless of who they were or what they had done. Above all, she lived and breathed to minister to people. Together, Berthann and her husband labored in love for nearly forty years in various ministries. Those years included witnessing to inmates in county jails and patients in mental health institutions. They also pastored One Accord Christian Fellowship for nearly ten years and prior to that, they served at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School for many years, creatively educating children about God’s Love. “Jesus be with you” was always included with her goodbyes, and this time she is with Him.
Berthann graduated from Concord High School and attended Bethel College. She owned and operated Tabatha’s Alterations for years. She also worked as a seamstress at JC Penny and Meis at the Concord Mall, as well as Watson’s in Manchester, TN. For years, she worked at JoAnn Fabrics, but it was more of a hobby, since she never met a fabric store she didn’t like. Berthann was an extremely talented seamstress and created beautiful wedding gowns for countless brides throughout the years.
No grass ever grew under Berthann’s feet; she was always on the go. She was a serial shopper and would often buy thoughtful gifts for her family and friends. Berthann considered friends as family and family as friends. Hosting the people she loved in her home and filling them with good food was one of her passions in life. As a grandmother, she was a Spoiler in Chief; as a mother, she was an Encourager in Chief; and as a wife, she was a faithful companion and The Chief.
Berthann was a devout republican, who wasn’t afraid to call her legislators and keep them in line. She was also very proud of her Native American heritage and loved to tell her children and grandchildren stories about their family history.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Rev. Patrick D. Blevins; her father, Rev. Jack DeVault; beloved sons, Nathaniel David (Chrisann) Blevins and Daniel Webster Blevins II; spoiled, but sweet grandchildren, Elizabeth Rose Blevins, Thaddeus Luke Blevins, Theodore Jude Blevins, and Thatcher Wade Blevins; a sister, Melody Hall; along with nieces and nephews, and a very special and cherished extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her grandparents; a sister-in-law, JoAnn “Jody” Blevins; and a brother-in-law, Steve Hall.
A service, celebrating her life in Jesus, will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Maranatha Fellowship, formerly Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, 1406 East Ewing Ave., South Bend, IN 46613. Dr. Jack Volkers will officiate. Burial will follow at Baintertown Cemetery in New Paris, IN.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 South Main Street, Goshen, IN 46526.
