Bowen C. Bowell, 91, Goshen, formerly of LaPorte, died at 5:30 p.m. EST Monday (Jan. 26, 2004) at the home of his daughter, Alice Terry.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church in LaPorte, with the Rev. John Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the church. Cutler Funeral Home handled arrangements.
He was born Sept. 23, 1912, in Galena Township in LaPorte County to Elias Carr and Zada (Garwood) Bowell. On April 14, 1936, in Stillwell, he married Madeline C. Cory, who died Sept. 23, 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Ann (Thomas) Terry, Goshen, and Myra Jane Thompson, Los Angeles; two sons, Gerald C. (Lucy) Bowell, Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Glenn A. Bowell, LaPorte; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding Mr. Bowell in death were one sister, Ann Anderson; and two brothers, William and James Bowell.
Mr. Bowell worked as a cement mason for 40 years, retiring in 1980. For 63 years, Mr. Bowell was a member of Grace Baptist Church in LaPorte which was formerly the Baptist Tabernacle. He also was affiliated with Calvary Baptist Church in Arcadia, Fla., where he spent his winters. He belonged to Gideons International for 57 years, the Arcadia, Fla., Gideon Camp, served on the LaPorte Child Evangelism Board and worked in the LaPorte County Jail Ministry for many years.
