Byron L. Taylor, 71, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home.

Byron was born in Huntington, IN, on August 7, 1946 to Alvin Leroy and Gilva Jane (Emshwiller) Taylor.

On December 21, 1968 in Wabash, IN, he married Peggy Gardenour, who survives. Together they enjoyed 49 years marriage. Also surviving are his adored daughters, Lisa (Michael) Bartels of Holly Springs, NC., Dr. Joy (Randy) Dewing of Gas City, IN., Kati Taylor of Indianapolis, IN; his grandchildren, Maggie Bartels, Ryan Bartels, Grace Bartels, Katherine Bartels; mother, Gilva Jane Taylor of Ocala, FL; and sisters, Sherrill Taylor and Serena (Tim) Britton of Ocala, FL.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Leroy Taylor and brother, Myron Taylor.

Byron completed his undergraduate work at Indiana Wesleyan University and completed his Masters Degree at Valparaiso University. He taught instrumental music at Wheeler High School for 1 year and at South Central High School for 10 years. He worked at New York Blower for 30 years as a maintenance supervisor, Vice President of human resources, regulatory compliance coordinator, and purchasing manager. Byron loved his wife, adored his children, and delighted in his grandchildren. He was very devoted to living a life honoring his Lord and Savior. Byron served in numerous capacities in the local church. He enjoyed working as a crisis responder for Samaritan's Purse, and serving as project manager for First Step of La Porte. He found joy in serving missions both here and internationally.

Byron's family would be privileged for all who knew him to attend his coronation ceremony on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11 AM (CST) at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and honor him by attending a catered luncheon afterward at Salvation Army. Family will greet friends from 9-11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Those unable to attend Saturday may meet the family at the funeral home Friday evening from 5-8 PM.

In honor of Byron's commitment to Christian Stewardship, the family requests memoriums be designated to First Step of La Porte c/o Salvation Army of La Porte, 3240 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350 or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
