Carl E. Krentz, age 84 of LaPorte, died 3:35 PM, Friday, January 4, 2013 at Settlers House, LaPorte, IN.

He was born January 20, 1928 in LaPorte, IN, son of Erich and Callie (Meuschke) Krentz.

Carl was Chairman of the Board for Thanhardt-Burger Corporation, LaPorte. He was Mayor of LaPorte from 1996-2000. A member of the LaPorte Hospital Board, LaPorte Manufacturers Association, LaPorte Economic Advancement Foundation, LaPorte Sesquicentennial Committee, St. John's Lutheran School Board, Congregation President, Board of Elders, Bethany Lutheran Church Member, LaPorte Chamber of Commerce, and a Director of LaPorte Bank & Trust.

Carl enjoyed gardening, grilling, reading, golf, fishing, hunting, and being an Actor/Director for the LaPorte Little Theatre Club.

On April 6, 1951, in Rockville, Missouri, he married Viola "Vi" Hilgendorf, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Mark A. (Laura) Krentz, Randall L. Krentz; daughters, Karla (Brad) Stuebing, Melinda (Paul) Burgess, Jennifer (Bill) Krentz-Leone; grandchildren, Erika, Alexandra Stuebing; Katie, Amanda, Emily Krentz; Jayce Boy; Derek, Trent Krentz; Sam, Abby Burgess; Callie, Zoe Leone; brother Paul (Glee) Krentz; sisters, Ellen (Eugene) Pennekamp, Annette (Richard) Larson, Evelyn (Ronald) Harman; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Emily (Vernon) Lorenz.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, and on Wednesday from 9-10 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating.

Interment will follow in the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
