Celia Parsons

Celia Parsons, 89, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2006 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Union Mills, with Pastor John Beehler officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Celia was born December 30, 1916, in Hobart, Indiana to the late George & Fredda (Chambers) Wakeman. On May 2, 1943, in Union Mills, she married Lee Parsons, who preceded her in death June 18, 2005.

Survivors include sons Alan, (Susan) Parsons of LaPorte, David (Sharon) Parsons of Bloomington, IN and Roland (Meg) Parsons of LaPorte; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Janet Buetler of Otterbein, IN; and brothers Lloyd Wakeman of Columbia, MO, Willard Wakeman of Union Mills and Jack Wakeman of Monticello, IN.

A brother, Douglas Wakeman, preceded her in death.

Celia had taught school at Grass Creek, Indiana, Demotte, IN and at the Union Township High School. She was also assistant librarian at LaPorte High School.

She was a graduate of Union Mills High School and the Indiana State Teachers College. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, the Audubon Society, and LaPorte Co. Farm Bureau. She enjoyed working on family genealogy and raising wild flowers.
