Clarence "Swede" Carlson

Clarence W. "Swede" Carlson, 89, of Walkerton (Fish Lake), IN, died at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2005 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. CST on Sunday, December 11 at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Ron Devenport officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service with a Lions Memorial service being held at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be on Monday in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek.

Clarence was born December 18, 1915, in Grovertown, IN to John & Clara (Nelson) Carlson. On Jun e12, 1937, he married Dorothy Awald, who survives.

Also surviving are daughters Virginia (Richard) Piotrowicz of North Liberty, IN, Kathleen (Frank) Long of Westville, IN, and Christine (Michael) Cruse of Granger, IN; sons Ronald (Marcia) Carlson of LaPorte and Rick Carlson of North Liberty; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ernest, Elmer & Arthur Carlson.

Clarence was a life-long farmer. He had also worked as a millwright at Farmall, Studebaker, Rockwell Cummins, and American Motors and had retired from AM General in 1977. He had also owned Robin Hood Golf Course in South Bend.

He attended Mill Creek Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Mill Creek Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, playing Euchre and was an avid sports fan for his grandchildren and the Cubs.
