Clarence I. Huhnke, 78, LaPorte, died at 10 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at his home.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Burial with full military rites is in Patton Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Huhnke was born June 15, 1925, in Grovertown, Ind., to Carl and Iva (Hancock) Huhnke. On Sept. 23, 1945, in Knox, Ind., he married Evelyn G. Morse, who survives.
Survivors include five daughters, Carol (Rodger Dale) LaGard, Sharon Kraus, Roxann Jarboe, Sandra (Mike) Spurr and Debra (Dan) Orlowski, all of LaPorte; nine grandchildren, Joseph Smith, Thomas LaGard, Rodney LaGard, Kristine Kosco, Angela Jarboe, Melissa and Nathan Spurr, Andrew, Jennifer and Tracey Orlowski; two sisters, Alta Baker, LaPorte, and Hazel Paulsen, Yorktown, Ind.
He was preceded in death by three grandchildren,Robert and Steven Smith and Matthew Gillon; a son-in-law, Larry Kraus; and two brothers, Merle and Warren.
Mr. Huhnke retired from Whirlpool. He was a member of the Hamon Gray American Legion Post 83, where he was a finance officer, LaPorte High School Booster Club, Door Village Lions Club, where he had served as vice president, Indiana Credit Union League, the Whirlpool Credit Union board and, since 1980, an usher at Notre Dame football games. He was an avid LaPorte High School sports fan and was the Maple City Cadets Business Manager and past president. He was also a WW II Army veteran.
