Dakota Matthew Gene Gordon, 18, of Smithfield, VA, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2017, at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA.
Dakota is the son of Maranda (Michael) McKinney. He is also survived by his son, Aydan Cook; sister, Lyndsy Gordon; brothers, Tyler Gordon and Richard Moore III; grandparents, Pamela and Mark Wilcox, Kella and Alice Herald; stepgrandparents, Karen and Ned Giggy; great-grandmother, Sumiko Herald; aunt, Sarah (Nick) Brown; uncles, Robert (Sara) Olejniczak and Christopher Herald; and a very large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kota was loved by many and touched so many lives in his short time here. He loved music, hanging out with family and friends, constantly had his phone attached to his hand, and he loved to make people laugh. He wrestled and played football for New Prairie schools for several years and had plans of becoming a doctor. Kota was a former member of the Smithfield High School JROTC, but was currently only one test away from earning his GED with plans of joining the marines. He is already greatly missed by those who love him.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 6 PM (CST) on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, Indiana. A time of visitation will be held from 4 PM (CST) until the time of service on Thursday at the Funeral Home.
