David Luedtke

December 7, 1952 — February 5, 2017

David Thomas Luedtke, age 64, of La Porte, IN, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Madison, WI on December 7, 1952 to Thomas Leroy Luedtke and Mary Jane (Schwartz) Luedtke.

He graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, MO (class of 1971) and Lynn Technical College in Lynn, MO and attended Electrical Engineering courses at Purdue University Northwest. Early in his career, he traveled many of the world’s oceans as a technician on ships undertaking geophysical mapping for the petroleum industry. He also operated a “self-serve” auto repair facility and held various technical maintenance positions. His most recent position was in technical sales and support at Liquid Packaging Solutions, Inc.

David made friends quickly and easily. His stories brought tears of laughter to the listeners. As work took him around the country, he visited his many friends and family. He was generous with his time and whatever else he had. He and his daughter, Elaine, were each other’s best friends.

David was particular about some things: his pets, his flower gardens and his cooking. Once, when cooking with his mother, he even directed her on the proper way to cut an onion. Over the years, David was often photographed wearing a Hawaiian shirt at a big grill fixing something delicious.

He married Debbie Kliss in St. Joseph, MO on June 23, 1978. They were married for 15 years but remained good friends through the remaining years.

He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors are daughter, Elaine Elise Luedtke of La Porte; mother, Mary Luedtke; siblings, Teresa Fetter (Dennis), Tim Luedtke (Patti), Barbara Stone and Mark Luedtke (Shirley); many nieces and nephews; and good friends, David and Debbie Christian.

A private service was held on Friday, February 10th 2017 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in La Porte, IN. A “memory page” for comments is available at www.cutlerfuneralhome.com

Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of his daughter to The American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
