David McCain, age 82, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at IU Health La Porte Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
David was born in Parker City, IN, on October 13, 1933 to Howard and Carol (Moulton) McCain.
On August 28, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church, La Porte, IN, he married Mary Ellen Conry who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Kathleen McCain of Topanga, CA, Deborah (Keith) Forfia of Akron, OH, and Susan Mizer of Hermosa Beach, CA; three grandchildren, Mary, Michael, and Steven (Kasey); one great-grandson, Tucker; and siblings, John (Gail) McCain of Perrysburg, OH, Thomas (Mindy) McCain of Indianapolis, IN, and Malinda (Janice Webster) McCain of Chelsea, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David graduated from Richmond High School in Richmond, IN, in 1951. He then obtained a Bachelor's degree from Earlham College in 1955 and a Juris Doctor degree from the Valparaiso School of Law in 1958. David practiced law in La Porte for 58 years before his retirement in July 2015 and was a member of the Indiana State Bar Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, was Past Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Endowment Committee and a Delegate to the Annual Conference. He was Past President of the La Porte City Bar Association, the La Porte County Bar Association, and the Board of Directors of the United Fund. He served on the Board of Directors for Hamilton Grove and Chicago Trail Village, La Porte Building Trades, Inc., and La Porte Regional Physician Network. He was Chairman of the La Porte County Public Defender Board as well as the Past Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Board of Directors of La Porte Hospital, Inc., and the Board of Directors of Lakeland Health Corp. David was Past Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the La Porte Regional Health System and Past Vice President of the Valparaiso University Law School Alumni Association Board of Directors.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Evan Lash officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and one prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A private family burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery.
