Dean Ribordy, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at La Porte Hospital.
Born in La Porte, Indiana to Floyd and Mildred (Selkirk) Ribordy on October 16, 1930, he lived most of his life in La Porte. His passions were his family and farming, having spent most of his adult life owning and managing Maplette Farm, which belonged to his father and grandfather before him. He loved gospel music, John Deere tractors, and reminiscing about his days in the US Navy where he served from 1952-1955 overseas. He graduated from Purdue University in 1952 with a degree in Animal Science and was a lifelong member of Door Village United Methodist Church. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, strong work ethic and Christian faith.
Dean is survived by his wife of 62 years and best friend, Pat and his children: son Dale Ribordy and his wife Jan, son Dan Ribordy and his wife Pam, daughter Carolyn Eyrick and her husband Steve, and Don Ribordy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Meagan (Marty) Fukuda, Leslie (Andy) Maher, Molly (Doug) Semla, Kara Ribordy, Bethany Eyrick, and Becca Eyrick. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Ruff (Jim) Woolsey: sister-in-law, Lesta Ribordy; as well as many loving nieces and nephews and extended family. Preceding him in death are his parents; his grandson, Kent Ribordy; his sister, Betty Jane (Lloyd) Clayton; and his brother, Howard Ribordy.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 4 - 8 pm at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and Friday, March 11, 2016 from 10 - 11 am at Door Village United Methodist Church, 3502 W. Joliet Rd., La Porte. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Door Village United Methodist Church on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11 am with Reverend Gene Flickinger officiating. Burial will follow at Door Village Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorial donations be made in his name to Kent’s Run, a 5K race in honor of his grandson, Kent Ribordy, and in support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 165 West 150 South, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
