Deborah Arlene DePoy, 60, of Mill Creek, passed away on July 4, 2013 at IU Health La Porte Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in La Porte, Indiana on January 17, 1953 to James Frances and Edna Marguerite (Rumbaugh) DePoy.
Debbie is survived by her beloved "Aunt Boo" Arlene M. Avery and cousin, Dan Conrad; close friends Billy Robbins and Cindy Ault, all of La Porte. She had wonderful neighbors, the Ed Barnes family and Floyd and Shirley Tibbs from Mill Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother James LeRoy DePoy.
Debbie graduated from La Porte High School and Vandercook College of Music. She lived on the home farm and raised beef cattle. She played bassoon for over 20 years with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra and the Michigan City Municipal Band. She enjoyed teaching private bassoon lessons to local students. Debbie worked at Bernacchi's Farm Market, and then the Eagle grocery store in Michigan City until its closure. She was a home visitor and then became a tutor teaching English as a second language to elementary students in the La Porte Community School Corporation. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Rolling Prairie where she loved to worship and sing. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith.
A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center until the memorial service.
Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastors Mike Noble and Nathan Wireman officiating.
Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later time.
Debbie requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be directed to the Free Will Baptist Family Ministries, 90 Stanley Lane, Greeneville, Tennessee 37743.
