Dennis Arnold Christensen, 79, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at VNA Hospice Center.
Dennis was born on August 28, 1944, in Mokena, IL to Arnold and Evelyn (Barr) Christensen.
On May 25, 1968 in La Porte, IN, he married Ellen Cable who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Kelly (Mike) Smutzer of La Porte; granddaughter, Hannah Levendowski of Covington, LA; sister, Darlene Snyder of Plymouth; nephew, Mark Sndyer of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Barb Cable of Rolling Prairie; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Susan Cable; brothers-in-law, Glen Cable Jr., Gerald Cable, and Jay Snyder; and nephew, Christian Snyder.
Dennis proudly served in the United States Army, from 1965 - 1967, stationed primarily in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
Dennis was a postal worker for many years. He proudly served on the La Porte Co. Fair Board, in various positions, for over fifty years.
He enjoyed working in the yard, particularly riding his lawnmower. Dennis was a hard worker, who always had a lending hand to those needing his help. He enjoyed westerns and John Wayne movies.
Dennis liked playing jokes on people, but his greatest love was his family. He will be fondly remembered as a great husband, father, and papa.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Private inurnment will take place at Salem Cemetery at a later date.
