Donald Jeffrey, 92, died at 4:46 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Hospice House in South Bend, Indiana. He lived at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle after having lived in Chesterton, IN for 34 years and LaPorte County for 22 years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Cutler Funeral Home, with Rev. Floyd Wilcox officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Foster Cemetery.
He was born October 27, 1911, in Muncie, IN to Mitchell R. & Cora (Lattimore) Jeffrey. On August 15, 1938, he married Bernice (Giek) Kerscher, who preceded him in death in 1956. On June 22, 1957, in Portage, IN, he married Janet (Caler) Wilcox, who preceded him in death on January 24, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Dean) Luedtke, Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Vincent, Max II, Thomas & Martin Jeffrey and Cheryl Levy; 12 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Hogie, South Bend, IN; a step-sister, Irma Longenbaugh, Oceanside, CA; a half-sister, Betty Burke, South Bend; a half-brother, Max Jeffrey, Niles, MI; numerous nieces & nephews; and special friends, Ron & Rose Bauer and Bob & Doris Carter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Max Robert Jeffrey and 12 brothers and sisters.
He had retired from US Steel in Gary in the Sheet and Tin Mill, having worked there for 27 years. He was a member of the Galena Baptist Church for 22 years and he loved hunting and fishing.
