Donald Lee "Red" Murray, 76 years old of LaPorte, IN, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at his home.
He was born on February 9, 1935 in Rensselaer, IN, Son of the late John Thomas and Lillian (Byrne) Murray.
He was married on May 1, 1981 in LaPorte, IN., to Rena (Mann) Murray who survives. Also surviving are his children: Pamela Lee Owens of LaPorte; Reva (Russell) Murray Howard of LaPorte; Ernie Mann of Mill Creek; Judy (Brian) Spicher of Nappanee, IN; Robert (Sherri) Murray of LaPorte; Hershel Crockett of Jasper, AL; Kim (William) Smith of Elkhart, IN; Penny (Charlie) Ritchie of Bowling Green, KY; Brenda Murray of LaPorte; Tim Murray of Missouri; Tina (Jim) Cunningham of Hamlet; Gena Crockett of Michigan City; 34 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Susan) Murray of Rensselaer, IN; sisters, Louise Kellerhals of Savoy, IL; Norma Norris of Chalmers, IN; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda K. Armstrong; brothers, Jim, John & Marvin Murray; sister, Joyce Anne; granddaughter, Chastity Murray and great grandson, Johnathan Hasty.
Donald was a retired Machinist and Truck Driver for Joy Manufacturing in Michigan City and he was also a retired Security Guard for Pinkerton & Seven Trees Securities. He was a strong Union Activist belonging to International Association of Machinist & Aerospace Worker Local 2647. He never new a stranger and always had a smile on his face.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Raschka officiating. There will be a time of visitation on Saturday from noon until the time of service at Cutler Funeral home, LaPorte, IN.
