Doris Hucksted

Doris Jane Hucksted, 98, of New Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Hamilton Communities.

Doris was born on March 8, 1917 to the late Adolph and Ethel (Kiff) Strieter. She was the third of ten children.

On April 11, 1936 she married Walter L. Hucksted. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1994. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Debra (Karl) Johnson of South Bend, David (Mary)Hucksted of La Porte; five grandchildren, Joel (Kim) Peffley, Chris (Sarah) Peffley, Nicki Worek, Katie Worek, Kevin Hucksted; three step-grandchildren, Jessica (James) Frye, Karl (Alecia) Johnson, Kourtney Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Noah and Ethan Peffley, Brooklyn and Brennan Frye, Adelynn and Josiah Johnson, and Roman Merrill. Doris is also survived by her brother, A.W. "Skip" Strieter; sister, Pats Strorrer; sister-in-law, Velma Zieke, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; daughter, Susan Worek; grandson, Todd Hucksted; 3 brothers and 4 sisters, Robert Strieter, Donna Thomas, Pearl Wingstrom, Ralph Strieter, Mary Ellen Kuta, Richard Strieter, and Janis Strieter.

Doris was a lifetime resident of La Porte. She retired from Kroger in 1983. She volunteered at St. John's Thrift Shop and the La Porte Hospital for many years.
Doris enjoyed playing cards and often played pinochle at the senior center or bridge with a group of friends. For many years Doris and Walt were members of the Kings and Queens bowling league. She loved nature, living at Pine Lake, and working outdoors. At 97 years old, she could still be found outside working in her flower garden or raking leaves in the fall! Her family brought her the most joy. She will be greatly missed for her wisdom and loving nature.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Hamilton Grove and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and support.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM (CST) on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ronald Brauer officiating.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 -7 PM (CST) on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, and from 9 AM (CST) until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place following the service at Pine Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Ave, La Porte, IN 46350; Heartland Hospice, 230 W. Catalpa Drive, Suite D, Mishawaka, IN 46545-8322; Share Foundation, 6357 N 300 E, La Porte, IN, 46350 or charity of the donors choice.
