On the quiet evening at LaPorte Hospital on Nov. 17, at 7:35, God gave His love and blessing to John, her beloved husband and Barbara Lee, her loving daughter to fly down from heaven on the wings of a dove and take our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend Doris home to be in God?s love and glory for all eternity
Doris was born Feb. 4th, 1913 to Cordelia (Ayres) and John Emil Glanders in LaPorte, Indiana.
Doris was an avid golfer and was one of LaPorte's best. She experienced the fun and joy of having made 3 holes in one in her golfing career. She won many golf tournaments and was a golf scorer for the PGA golf pros many times when they played tournaments in Florida. She and John played in a Pro-Am golf tournament in Spain. John come in first in the mens, Doris came in second in the womens.
She loved the game of bridge and won many local tournaments. She loved and lived her life to the fullest. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was a great inspiration to all of us.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her daughter Donna Jean (Thomas) Teter; 7 grandchildren, Thomas Teter of Port St. Lucie, FL. Steven (Donna) Teter of LaPorte, IN, Robert (Lori) Kashmer of Pawnee, IL, Susan (Larry) Peterson of Union Mills, IN, Nancy (Chad) Addie of LaPorte, IN, Laurie (Bill) Arion of Kingsbury, IN, Sandra Kashmer of West Point, IN; 8 great-grandchildren, Tamara Teter, Linda Kubit, LeAnna Quartuccio, Staci Teter, Kristen Kubit, Michael Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Kyle Schweder; 4 great-step-grandchildren, Lindsay, Crissy, Caleb and Hannah Addie; one brother Gordon Glanders of LaPorte, IN; one sister, Patricia Parker of LaPorte, IN; her beautiful cat Max, who was her buddy and her life; many nieces and nephews.
Doris married John Mayer, her childhood sweetheart since the ages of 9 and 11, on Dec. 5th 1931 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in LaPorte, IN.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband John on Christmas Day, 1979. She lost her daughter Barbara Kashmer, Dec. 16, 2001, one great-granddaughter, Jessica Peterson, 3 sisters, Verna Janes, Florence Severs, Lois Olson, 5 brothers, Russell, Dale, Norman, Donald and Gerald Glanders.
Doris was a past member of the LaPorte Lady Elks Golfers, Beechwood Lady Golfers, the Saint & Sinners Lady Golfers of Port St. Lucie, FL, LaPorte Women's Literary, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the LaPorte Lady Elks Bowling Team and the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Addie officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the LaPorte High School Girls Golf Team.
She will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends.
