Doris Mae ("Jo") Scott, 87, formerly of LaPorte, IN went safely home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:10 A.M. Monday, October 25, 2010 at Greencroft Health Center of Goshen, Indiana after a long illness.
She was born in Cleveland, OH on December 14, 1922, to Mary Eli and Lawrence Edgar Joseph. On April 25, 1944 she married Dr. John Spahr Scott in Pittsburg, PA who preceded her in death on August 24, 2001. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1939. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN in1944 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Jo attended Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton, IN. She was one of the founders of the Community Bible Study in LaPorte. She was also active in Service League, Women's Literary Society, Bible Study Fellowship, Meals on Wheels, and Questers.
Jo was a very warm, loving person who obtained most of her joy in life from serving other people. She was fun, enthusiastic, and encouraging, as well as being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by one son and one daughter, Dr. Peter Lawrence (Suzy) Scott of Bonita Springs FL , and Valerie Spahr Bierlein of Goshen, IN; four grandchildren, Jeffrey David (Tracy) Scott of Chicago, IL, Michelle Lynne (Brad) Schall of Fishers, IN, Andrew Scott (Lisa) Bierlein of Mesa, AZ, and Emily Jo Bierlein of Mishawaka, IN; and seven great-grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth Scott, Grant Jeffrey Scott, Jack Charles Scott, Towne Elizabeth Schall, Justin James Stringer-Bierlein, Micah Scott Bierlein, and Malachi Judd Bierlein. She is survived by one sister Mary Louise Perry of Ithaca, NY.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, IN. There will be a time of visitation on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. There will be a private gravesite service at Pine Lake Cemetery.
