Doris Elaine (Walden) Singleton

June 20, 1927 — February 5, 2022

Doris Elaine Singleton, 94, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Miller Health and Rehab.

Doris was born on June 20,1927 in Magog, Quebec, Canada to Francis and Cora (Woodard) Walden.

On June 7, 1946, in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada, she married the love of her life, Earl Joseph Singleton, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 7 siblings, Evelyn, George, Austin, Sidney, John, Rosalie and Russell.

She is survived by her 3 children, Christine (Ed) Marlow of Mesa, AZ, Clyde (My) Singleton of Clarksville, TN, and Craig (Melinda) Singleton of Wheaton, IL; 9 grandchildren, Andrea, Tim, Kevin, Becky, David, Chrissan, Claire, Mike and Joe; 16 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Andrew, Megan, Miranda, Noah, Eli, Joey, Megan, Rachel, Micheal, Jennifer, Brittni, Tevah, Phoenix and Danny; 1 great-great grandchild Oaklee; and many nieces and nephews.

She worked as a secretary in the x-ray dept at LaPorte Hospital for several years and really loved that job.

Doris loved music her whole life. She was an excellent dancer, especially swing dancing with Earl. Doris had a beautiful singing voice, and you could always hear her singing along to all songs. She knew all the words to every song she ever heard. Doris played the organ beautifully and also dabbled in painting (at which she was also very good).  She was truly a multi-talented woman.

Everyone who ever met her loved her immediately. There was so much to love. She always had a kind word for everyone. "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." was taught to all in the family. Doris always led by example. She loved life and thought it was important to always be positive, but most of all she loved her family dearly. Doris was a great lady, and she will be greatly missed.
