Dorothy (Strobl) Jurs

It is with great sadness, the family of Dorothy Strobl Jurs announces she passed away on June 4, 2018. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by step-son, David Norman Jurs, her sister, Janice (Jerry) Mader, nephew, Jeff (Amy) Mader, and niece, Julie (Drew) Hupp. Cherished great aunt of Rachel (Andrew) Logan, Katherine Mader, Alex Hupp, and Jack Mader. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Jurs.  Dorothy was born to Henry and Anne Strobl in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Notre Dame High School, Chicago, Mundelein College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and earned her Master’s Degree in Theology. She entered the convent of the Sisters of Notre Dame De Namur for eight years.  Dorothy went on to teach Religion at Sacred Heart of Mary High School and later was the Dean of Students.  She was then the Dean of Students at St.Viator High School. With a song in her heart, Dorothy’s passion was singing with Sweet Adelines International. Dorothy proudly earned five International gold medals with the Melodeers chorus. She served as the president of the Melodeers chorus and was the Treasurer of Sweet Adelines International.  Dorothy was also a member of Toastmasters of Chicago, winning trophies for her speaking.  Dorothy enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers in La Porte, IN. She will be missed immensely by her family and friends. A Celebration of Life for Dorothy will be held on Sunday, July 1st at the Chikaming Country Club, 15029 Lakeside Rd. Lakeside, MI.  12:00 - 3:00 pm EST. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
