Dr. William Moore

Dr. William Gilbert Moore, age 84, of La Porte, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. He was born on November 19, 1931 in central Indiana to Edward and Geraldine Moore.

On March 31, 1956 in Terre Haute, IN, he married Barbara who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Dr. Wayne E. (Deb) Moore and Dr. Brian G. (Debbie) Moore, both of La Porte; 6 grandchildren, Megan (Trent) Carnes, Rachel (Tyler) Paarlberg, Nathaniel (Kendall) Moore, Spencer (Savannah) Moore, David and Sarah Moore; two great-grandchildren, Jesse and Riley Paarlberg. He was preceded by his parents.

Dr. Moore attended Wentworth Military Academy for three years where he graduated High School and Junior College. He then completed his pre-medical studies at Indiana University and graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1956. He served a surgical internship at Charity Hospital, New Orleans and then completed his General Surgery Residency at Marion County General Hospital in Indianapolis in 1961.

Dr. Moore served thirteen years in the U.S. Army Reserves and two years as a U.S. Army captain on active duty as a surgeon 1961-1963 at Fort Hood, Texas.

Dr. Moore was a dedicated member of the La Porte community, serving as a general surgeon at La Porte hospitals for 50 years since 1963 and as a member of La Porte Hospital Board of Directors. He was Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Indiana State Medical Association and La Porte County Medical Society. He served as President of the La Porte Hospital Medical Staff, La Porte County Medical Society and the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

He was a member of the Michigan City Power Squadron, finishing all their classes, and enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan. He especially enjoyed riding horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Other interests included farming, hunting, and fishing.

He loved to study the Bible and was a member of Grace Baptist Church of La Porte. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Baptist Church on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church at 11 am. Pastor Charles Kim Landrum will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Bethany Cemetery in Marshall, IN.

A time of visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and also from 10 am until the time of service on Monday at the church.
