Edward Leonard Ritter, Jr., 73 years old of Kingsbury, IN., died Thursday, August 27, 2009 in LaPorte Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1936 in LaPorte, Indiana, Son of the late Edward and Catherine (Frank) Ritter.
He was married on August 31, 1968 in Kingsbury, IN to Leo Mae Cooley who survives.
Surviving are his wife, Leo Mae Ritter, children, Julie (Leo) Henricks of North Judson, IN., Mark Ritter of Kingsbury, IN., Sherry (Aaron) Banic of Kingsbury, James (Carla) Ritter of Mill Creek, IN., Dawn Bildhauser of Michigan City, IN., Debi (John) Jones of Missouri, Edward, Jr. (Jami) Ritter of Michigan City, Ellen (Steve) Mizia of Michigan City, grandchildren, Lance & Leslie Henricks, Danielle, Marcus, RaeAnn, & Joseph Ritter, Drake, Brent, & Chandler Banic, Caitlin, Jacob, Kayla Ritter & Kyle Baker, Madison Ritter, Tara Partin, Katie Ash, Brandi, Kris Bildhauser, Jessica Walters, Kim Walters, Johanna Jones, Tabatha Mizia, 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Ritter, son, Edward Russell Ritter, and step-father, Russell York..
He was a member of Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department were he served for 42 years. He served as chief and assistant chief and was currently the president. He belonged to IVFA (Indiana Volunteer Fireman's Association). Ed joined the US Army in 1952 and served until 1958. He served and fought in the Korean War. He worked as a maintenance man for American Home Foods for 18 years and Louis Bakery for 10 years in maintained. He was presently working for the D.N.R. gun range as a Range Master at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 222 of Kingsbury and also past Governor of the Moose Lodge in LaPorte. He was on the Kingsbury Town board for many years, he was the Washington Township Precinct Committee Chair and also on the Kingsbury Cemetery Board. Ed loved to work and help out anyone in need. He was always willing and ready to help the people within his community. He loved to go fishing and tell all of his far fetched fish stories.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 3-8 P.M. at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, IN. There will be a IVFA service at 7:00 P.M. There will also be a Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M.
Services will be held at Cutler Funeral Home, Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with Bruce Vermilyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Kingsbury Cemetery with full military honors.
Contributions may be made to the Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department or the Family of Edward Ritter.
