Edward A. Soetje, 65, LaPorte, died at 9:55 p.m. Monday (June 2, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at LaPorte First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cutler Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
He was born Feb. 27, 1938, in LaPorte, to Edward F. and Hazel Jane (Wagner) Soetje. His mother survives in LaPorte. On Sept. 2, 1961, in LaPorte, he married Ruth Hacker, who survives.
Survivors also include two sons, Mark (Sandy) Soetje, Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Jeff (Cindy) Soetje, Burlington, Wis.; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Rebecca.
His father preceded him in death.
Mr. Soetje worked at Kabelin's True Value Home Center since 1971. A member of the LaPorte First United Methodist Church, Mr. Soetje served on the church board, the finance council and the Family Life Council. Mr. Soetje went to DePauw University in Greencastle, earning a degree in history and economics and serving as vice-president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. Mr. Soetje earned his MBA at Indiana University.
