Effie Dorthea Link, 99, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at LaPorte Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, at the LaPorte Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
Effie was born October 30, 1905 to Henry & Marie (Lehker) Rameier. On June 15, 1935, in LaPorte, she married Herbert J. Link, who preceded her in death November 9, 1969.
Survivors include daughter Sandra L. Lignell of Orland Park, IL; son Herbert J. (Joyce) Link of LaPorte; grandchildren Rebecca J. (Dennis) Nash, Martha J. (Thomas) Mikucki, Matthew S. Lignell and Bonee (Chris) Ranson; great-grandchildren Michael (Jenny) Coughlin, Joseph Coughlin, Sylvia Mikucki and Benjamin & Jacob Nash; and great-great-grandson Austin Coughlin. She will be missed by the Standifer family.
She was preceded in death by granddaughter Elizabeth R. Lignell, son-in-law Rev. Dr. John E. Lignell, sisters Elizabeth and Ruth Olson and brothers Walter and Arthur Rameier.
Effie had worked as deputy county auditor when her husband served as Auditor for LaPorte County. She had also worked as Administrative Supervisor of Nursing at Beatty Memorial Hospital.
She was a 1923 graduate of Stillwell High School and a graduate of the Michael Reese School of Nursing in Chicago. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Braille Group. She was also past president and 70 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was active in Girl Scouts, the Park School PTA, the LaPorte Co. Republican Party and Pinola Grange.
