Elaine Allen Wise, 87, New Carlisle, died at 12:24 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 16, 2003) at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte. Burial will be in Westville Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wise was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Frankfort, S.D., to Merritt and Loretta (Robinson) Sheldon. In 1941, she married Forrest C. Allen, who preceded her in death. She then married Sherman B. Wise, who survives in New Carlisle.
Survivors also include two daughters, Laurie (Bob) DePaul, Michigan City, and Ellen Musser, Noblesville, Ind.; one son, Charles Allen, Las Vegas; nine grandchildren, Jaci, Jeri and Michael Prentiss, Shellie and Mark Musser, Mathew Allen, Joy Climer and Carl and Darrin DePaul; four great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Karen Imholt, Canby, Ore.; one stepson, Douglas Wise, Renton, Wash.; two sisters, Margaret Bailey, Bismarck, N.D., and Joan Campbell, Frankfort; two brothers, Darryl and Jerry Sheldon, both of Mandan, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
One sister, Barbara Labrie, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wise was a tailor at Droege's Clothing Store in LaPorte for more than 20 years, then worked at American Home Foods for 10 years until she retired.
She was a member of the VFW Post 9423 Auxiliary of Rolling Prairie and the Golden Agers. She loved crocheting, gardening and flowers. She attended St. John Kanty Catholic Church.
