Emma Frances (Weddle) Cody

Emma Frances Cody, 98, of La Porte, Indiana, formerly of Monticello, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Settler's Place.

Emma was born on December 15, 1924, in Nancy, Kentucky, to Arch and Wilmoth (Morris) Weddle.

On November 22, 1942 in Monticello, Illinois, she married Clifford L. Cody, who preceded her in death.

Surviving Emma are her granddaughter, Tina Welches of Trail Creek; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Cody and Felicity, all of Trail Creek; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arch and Wilmoth Weddle; husband, Clifford Cody; siblings, Mollie, Eula, Hazel, Edward "Ed", Ralph "Tom", Frank, Thelma, and Maxine; daughters, Linda Rex and Donna Cody; and beloved grandson, Bobby Salzwedel.

Emma was a nanny in her younger years, a devoted mother and homemaker during her children's growing years, moved up to LaPorte with her family in the early 50's and then later worked and retired from American Home Foods. She spent her free time volunteering with Meals on Wheels and other local organizations, was on a bowling league, loved cleaning, gardening, bird-watching, and traveling. Emma took a yearly trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico to visit her daughter, Linda, and from there traveled many other places with her family; her favorite trips being Cancun, the Grand Canyon and Hawaii. Most importantly though, she will always be remembered and deeply appreciated for how much she sacrificed and gave so much of herself, loving and caring for her grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in La Porte, Indiana. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Appalachian Project In Kentucky or the Social and Learning Institute in Michigan City.
