Emmette Reginald "Reggie" Higgins, 87, of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, with his wife and children by his side.
Born on October 26, 1937, in Union County, Mississippi, Reggie was the son of the late John L. Higgins and Jeanette L. (Andrews) Higgins.
He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Bonnie L. Higgins, and their four children: Emmett Reginald Higgins, Jr. (Cathy) of Alpharetta, GA, John (Julie) Higgins of La Porte, IN, Alex Higgins of Milwaukee, WI, and Deborah (Higgins) Spoor of La Porte, IN. He was a loving father and proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ross (Loretta) Higgins of Conway, AR, and Lanelle (Jimmy) Tate of Pontotoc, MS. Reggie was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Higgins, and sisters Cathy Higgins and Katie (Higgins) Knighton.
Reggie's family was his greatest joy, and his cherished dog, Abby, brought him much comfort and companionship throughout the last few years of his life.
After graduating from high school in Mississippi, Reggie moved to La Porte, Indiana, where he began his professional career. He worked at Kingsley Furniture Company for 20 years before transitioning into a 20+ year career as a Foreman at Tonn & Blank Construction, where he completed his apprenticeship and helped shape the construction landscape of the region. He enjoyed his time outdoors, honing his skills as a gunsmith, avid fisherman, and hunter. He had a lifelong love for antique collecting, which became a treasured hobby he shared with his wife.
Reggie will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his work ethic, and his passion for the outdoors. His gentle nature, humor, and strong sense of integrity touched everyone who knew him.
A private Celebration of Life will be scheduled soon.

Reggie's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and many friends.
