Ernest J. Stevens, 66, LaPorte, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cutler Funeral Home, with Pastor Wayne Joyner officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.
He was born July 24, 1937, in Harrisburg, Ark., to Elmer and Lilly (Osborn) Stevens. On Aug. 13, 1993, he married Elizabeth Peggy Godson, who survives.
Survivors also include three sons, Jesse Stevens and Jimmy Stevens, both of LaPorte, and Jeffery Stevens, Granger, Ind.; two daughters, Renee Knoop, Indianapolis, and Mary Jarvis, Monticello, Ind.; two stepsons, Greg and Jeff Smith, both of LaPorte; many grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Stevens and Bob Stevens, both of LaPorte, and Jerry Stevens, Fish Lake; and four sisters, Lois Metheny, New Carlisle, Jean Friend, Stillwell, Ind., Shirley Grant, Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Brenda Scherer, Knox, Ind.
Also preceding Mr. Stevens in death were three brothers, Loren, Donald Ray and Michael Stevens.
Mr. Stevens worked as a roofer for many different contractors over the years.
