Esther M. Bowen, age 95, of La Porte, passed away on April 27, 2014 at IU Health La Porte Hospital.
She was born on February 20, 1919 in Martinsville, Illinois, daughter of the late Grant and Ethel (Melton) Elliott.
She was married on November 23, 1938 in St. Louis, MO to Alvin Bowen who preceded her in death on February 18, 1984.
Esther retired after working 25 years for Indiana Molding and Frame Company. She was a member of the Door Village Church.
Surviving are her son; Marvin (Gail) Bowen of LaPorte, grandchildren; Deryl (Anna) Veach of Iowa, Eric (Catherine) Veach of LaPorte, Donald (Jennifer) Bowen of Wabash, IN., Shari (Leon) Mullins of LaPorte, Anthony Bowen of LaPorte; great grandchildren; Shayne, Tyler, Ashlyn, Joshua, Donald, Jr., Bethany, Maxwell, Alexis, Nathan, Justin, Samuel, and Kaitlyn; one great great granddaughter, Audrey Bowen; sister, Loretta (Jim) Bournay of LaPorte, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Bowen; her parents; daughter, Janice Lawrence; sister, Ruth Stephens; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Zachary.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Door Village United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Nickrand officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Patton Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 1 PM until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
