Fay Mathes, 88, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 4:45 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2006 at Countryside Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Larry D. Owen officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
Fay was born May 17, 1918, in Hindsboro, Illinois to the late Rev. J. W. And Amanda (Owens) Mahoney. In January of 1937, in Bourbon, Illinois, she married Donald E. Jones who preceded her in death on April 15, 1983. In 1985, she married Paul W. Mathes, who survives.
Survivors also include son David L. Jones of LaPorte; daughter Diane Hudgins of LaPorte; stepson Paul Mathes, Jr. of Hammond, IN; stepdaughter Judy F. Gentry of LaPorte; grandchildren Kelly L. Jones, David E.Jones, Bradley Bumgardner, and Crystal, Stefanie & Duston Hudgins; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 8 step great-grandchildren; and sister Katherine Wilson of Utah.
A grandson, Edward Gentry, sisters Meda, Delta and Mary and brothers Paul and John preceded her in death.
Fay had worked at Levine's Department Store and Whirlpool.
She loved golf, and played with the Lady 9 Holers at Beechwood. She also loved to watch sports, especially the Cubs.
