Florence Whetzell, 93, of Elkhart, Indiana and formerly of LaPorte, died at 6:34 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2006. She died at the Elkhart East Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, at the LaPorte First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. There was no visitation. Burial will take place in Salem Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Cutler Funeral Home.
Florence was born February 2, 1912, in Chicago, Illinois to Herbert & Gertrude (Klumb) Gulley. On March 21, 1936, in Chicago, she married Lee Travis Whetzell, who preceded her in death August 30, 1998.
Survivors include daughter Kay W. (Oren) Walker of Wheaton, IL; son John L. (Mary) Whetzell of Vandalia, MI; and grandchildren Crystal & Patrick Whetzell.
Brothers John "Jack" and James Gulley preceded her in death.
Before Florence married, she worked as a secretary at The Book House in Chicago. After she married, she was a dedicated homemaker.
She was a member of the LaPorte First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the church.
