Frances "Fran" Maxine Mellenthin, 95, of La Porte, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Brentwood at La Porte.
Fran was born on August 4, 1926 in La Porte, IN, to Harold and Evelyn (Voss) Schumaker.
On July 13, 1946 in La Porte, IN, she married Irwin "Irv" Mellenthin,who preceded her in death. Surviving Fran are her daughters, Cathy (Herb) Hagenow of Rockford, MI and Lynn (Norm) Daniel of Coloma, MI; 6 grandchildren, Andy (Char) Hagenow of Rockford, MI, Matt (Karen) Hagenow of Knoxville, TN, Jason (Missi) Hagenow of Ravenna, MI, Jennifer Klitchman of Coloma, MI, Nikki (Kevin) Needham of Coloma, MI and Courtney (Ken) Fisk of Howard City, MI; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marilyn Burrows and Dolores (Bob) Keller both of La Porte, IN; her beloved caregiver, Tammy Ruminski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Kate Schumaker; father-in-law, George Mellenthin; mother-in-law, Laura Mellenthin; son-in-law, Chet Schlipp; grandson-in-law, Bill Klitchman; and brother-in-law, Gene Burrows.
Fran attended Nursing College in Chicago, IL, until leaving to marry the love of her life. She was a member of the Beechwood Ladies Golf League, South Bend Country Club, Questors, and St. John's Circle. Fran enjoyed antiquing, attending auctions, sewing, needle point, and reading.
In their retirement, Fran and Irv enjoyed traveling and visiting their daughters and grandchildren. They were often seen, with their friends, dancing at the country club.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor John Albers officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, La Porte.
A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
