Fred Jack Ott, 83, LaPorte, died of natural causes at 11:45 a.m. Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at Fountainview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in LaPorte.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. Burial will be at a later time at Pine Lake Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the American Legion conducting a memorial service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ott was born June 30, 1920, in Harvey, Ill., to Fred and Florence (Metts) Ott, Sr. On Dec. 31, 1948, in LaPorte, he married Lois Scott, who survives in LaPorte.
Survivors also include two sons, Kenneth (Debbie) Ott, Fort Worth, Texas, and Terry Ott, LaPorte; one daughter, Cheryl Creed, Valparaiso; three grandchildren, Vicki Ott and Joshua and Jeremy Creed; two sisters, Thelma Sanders, Ruskin, Fla., and Alice Sand, Sharpsville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; and four brothers.
Mr. Ott retired from Allis-Chalmers after 36 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a military policeman. He was a member of American Legion Post 21 of Westville, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2439 and served as an Auxiliary Police Officer for the City of LaPorte.
