Fred Kuhmichel, 86, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2006. He died at his home.
A memorial service will be held at a later time in New Jersey. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, May 23, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, NJ.
Fred was born April 19, 1920, in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Lewis & Lena (Benbrook) Kuhmichel. On September 16, 1950, in Peapack, NJ to Abby Backer who survives.
Surviving are sons Philip "Gus" (Kathy) Kuhmichel of Dekalb, IL, Lyle "Ben" (Cate) Kuhmichel of Elkhart, IN and Lewis "Lew" (Ruby) Kuhmichel of Woodlands, TX; daughter Jessie "Jill" (Scott) Pazdell of Hawthorn Woods, IL; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
Fred was a retired accountant. He attended Rutgers University and received a B.S. degree in business administration. He was a member of the LaPorte Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #0216, and the National Association of Accountants. He was treasurer of the United Way for 19 years. He was also a US Navy veteran of WW II.
