George "Benny" Benefiel, 84, of La Porte, Indiana went home to heaven to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born in Englewood, Colorado on February 5, 1932 to George and Kay Benefiel who preceded him in death.
On June 16, 1956 he married Jari Ann Fara who preceded him on November 7, 2008. Surviving are his beloved children Bret (Cindy) Benefiel of La Porte, Scot (Mary) Benefiel and Mele (Mark) Simonson of Arizona; grandchildren Sara and Jake Benefiel of La Porte, Ellyn (Jared) Gibo and Matt Benefiel of California, David (Elie) Simonson of Illinois and Michael Simonson of Arizona; great-grandchildren Uriah Simonson of Arizona and Olivia Simonson of Illinois; and his brother Skip Benefiel of Washington.
George was a graduate of Englewood High School in Colorado. After graduation he joined the US Navy where he completed the US Naval Submarine School and the Nuclear Submarine Propulsion Program. He served on the USS Caiman (SS323) as an Electrician’s Mate First Class during the Korean War. After he served in the Navy George attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
George was a past owner of House of Fara. He attended First Church of God in La Porte and Scottsdale Bible Church in Arizona. He was a past member of the Elks Club and the Beechwood Men’s Club. He loved playing golf with his long time buddies, working in his yard from sun up to sun down, and he especially loved watching his grandchildren play sports. George loved the Lord and was a loving & hardworking husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Cutler Funeral Home. Full military honors will be conducted at the service. A time of visitation with George’s family will be held that day from 11 am until the time of service. A private burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery.
