George Forrest

George E. Forrest, 101 years old of La Porte, IN, died at 11 P.M. Thursday, September 9. 2010 at Golden Living Fountainview.

He was born August 30, 1909 in Chicago, IL, son of the late George C. and Agnes Fischer Forrest.

George was married on November 27, 1943 in Oak Park, IL., to Mary Grace Alden, who preceded him in death December 17, 2005.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in LaPorte, IN., upon moving from Elmhurst, IL., to LaPorte, IN. He was an active member of Boy Scouts of America for over 80 years, having received membership in the Order of the Arrow, and awarded the Silver Beaver. The Torch, an award given through the church and shared with his wife in recognition of outstanding service to children and youth in the annual conference in 2000. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he worked in San Francisco as a 1st Lt. in contract renegotiation. He attended Northwestern University School of Commerce graduating in 1951.

He retired in June of 1981 from Montgomery Motor Sales. He was the office Manager and accountant.

Surviving are his daughters; Mary Beth (Gary) Fry of Plymouth, MI., Cathy DeWitt of LaPorte, grandchildren; Bob (Tina) DeWitt, Hope (Jason) Roberts, Jonathan (Amy) DeWitt, Joanna (Ryan) Huff, Deborah (Greg) Marten, Douglas (Kathy) Fry, Cathy (Justin) Brinkman, Carolyn (Stuart) Naylor, 17 great grandchildren, and brother, Leland Forrest of London, OH.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Forrest and brother, William Forrest.

There will be a time of visitation from 9 to 11 A.M. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at First United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will follow with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Lake Cemetery with Military Honors.
