Gharyl Boston

Gharyl "Geree" Boston, 82, died at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Brentwood in LaPorte.

She was born on September 18, 1928 in LaPorte to Donovan and Mabel (Tobias) Frye and has been a resident of LaPorte most of her life.

She was married on June 25, 1950 to Charles Boston who survives.

Geree graduated from LaPorte High School in 1946 and received her Registered Nurse degree from Rush Presbyterian School of Nursing in Chicago in 1949. She served as a pediatric nurse for several years during her husband's service in the Korean War.

Through the years, Geree was very active in the LaPorte community. As a breast cancer survivor, she was one of the first local American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program volunteers and leaders. In 1959, she was elected the first president of the Fairview Hospital auxiliary. She also served as LaPorte Service League President. Geree was a renowned collector of antique furniture, quilts, crocks, baskets and tins, and was active in the startup of the Door Prairie LaPorte Questors antique organization. She was also a longstanding member of the LaPorte Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities, including Elder.

Geree is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Charles Boston of LaPorte; daughters, Tamara (Stephen) Anderson of Apex, North Carolina and Martha (Dragan) Boston-Majetic of Oberursel, Germany; 5 grandchildren, James, Lauren and Meredith Anderson, and Katarina and Peter Majetic. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Cathcart of LaPorte.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Valen Frye.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at the LaPorte Presbyterian Church. The family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment has taken place in the LaPorte Presbyterian Church Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LaPorte Presbyterian Church, the American Cancer Society, and the Alzheimer's Association.
