Gordon Craft, 91 years old of La Porte, IN, died Friday, October 9, 2009 in LaPorte Hospital .
He was born July 19, 1918 in his home in Kingsbury, Indiana, Son of John A. and May (Canfield) Craft.
Gordon lived in La Porte County his entire life and started his farming career using horses as a source of power and as recently as two years ago he was still operating a combine. He was a dairy and grain farmer and a former director of La Porte County Farm Bureau Co-op. He was a life-long member and former deacon of First Baptist Church of Kingsbury. He grew up on the home farm and graduated from Kingsbury High School in 1936.
As a 4-H Junior Leader he met Helen C. Diesslin and they married September 27, 1941. This union of 68 years brought into this world; Jim (Laraine) Craft of LaPorte, Charlie (Patti) Craft of La Porte, Peggy (Willis) Alt of Warsaw, IN., Tom (Jame Solner) Craft of Michigan City and Jane (Jeff) York of Downers Grove, IL. 18 Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren. His wife, Helen and a brother William W. (Dorathy) Craft of Monticello, IN. also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother; Edward O. Craft.
Friends will be received at the Cutler Funeral Home from 2-6:00 PM Sunday October 11, 2009 and at the First Baptist Church of Kingsbury from 10-11:00 AM on Monday October 12, 2009. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the church with Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Kingsbury Cemetery.
