Gregory Scott McConnell

Gregory Scott McConnell, 52, of La Porte, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Northwest Health - La Porte.

Gregory was born in Torrington, WY, on February 8, 1969 to Edward Harold and Verla Jean (Greenbush) McConnell.

On September 3, 2011 in La Porte, he married Donna Makowski, who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Shelby Pearish of La Porte, Cory (Alyssa) Nehmelman of Michigan City, and Melanie (Nick) McConnell of La Porte; stepdaughters, Emily Gesino and Grace Gesino both of La Porte; 7 grandchildren, June, Ayden, Aubrey, Ava, Asher, Paisley, and Colt; mother, Verla McConnell of La Porte; brother, Fred McConnell of Valparaiso; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward McConnell; grandfather, Kenneth V. McConnell; and grandmother, Frankie E. McConnell.

Gregory proudly served in the U.S. Army.  He later worked as a Sanitation Engineer for 10 years at Waste Management.

Gregory was a faithful member of Journey Church and the Fight Club Ministry.  He loved riding his motorcycle, hunting, and exercising his Second Amendment right.  More than anything, Gregory sacrificially loved his family.  He was loyal, trustworthy, faithful, passionate, determined, and proud. Gregory will lovingly be remembered by his family as eccentric and a goofball.  He will be deeply missed.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Journey Church, 6006 N Fail Rd., La Porte, Indiana with Pastor Kelley Sewell officiating.  A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 11 AM until the time of the service.  Full Military Honor's will be held during the service.  A time for fellowship and refreshment will be held immediately following the services at the church.  Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
