Harold R. Bachman, age 84, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in La Porte.
Harold was born in La Porte on August 14, 1930 to Harold R. and Clara (Burden) Bachman, Sr.
In 1951 in Michigan City, he married Shirley Handtke who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Sherrie (Tim) Jones of La Porte, Stephanie (Ben) Ameling of Rolling Prairie, Sally (Fred) Bergman of Valparaiso, Robert Bachman of La Porte; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Trevor Hammons, Craig Ameling, Karissa Ameling. Philip Paxson, Natasha (Jason) Walters, Mason Paxson, Rob Bachman, Jr.; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harold was a United States Army Veteran. He worked as a Standard Oil Driver for over 20 years. He also ran the muffler shop and worked at La Porte Chrysler and finally retired from the US Postal Service as a rural carrier in Mill Creek, IN. Harold enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, and playing bingo. He was an avid bowler in the past and also enjoyed golfing.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Robert Bucheit officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2014 and from 10 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Pine Lake Cemetery.
